POW/MIA Chair of Honor to Be Placed in US Capitol

North Berwick, ME – Over the past three years Hussey Seating Company, in collaboration with Rolling Thunder Chapters across the country, has created a program to honor American servicemen and women who are or have been Prisoners of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA). This program dedicates POW/MIA Honor Chairs at gathering places throughout the nation. Each chair displays the POW/MIA emblem and remains empty as a symbol to those who never made it home. Recently, a bill supported by Senator Angus King directed the Architect of the Capitol to place a chair honoring POW/MIAs in the US Capitol building.

In 2013 Hussey Seating dedicated its own POW/MIA Chair of Honor at their North Berwick Campus with the help of Senator Angus King and The Rolling Thunder. “I left North Berwick that day feeling determined to raise awareness for this cause,” said Senator King. “The dedication ceremonies held for these Honor Chairs are truly moving and it is essential that as a nation we remember our POW/MIAs. Always reserving a seat for them is just one step in the right direction.”

On November 15, 2016 at a company-wide meeting, Senator King’s Regional Representative, Bonita Pothier, presented Gary Merrill, Hussey Seating President and CEO, with a copy of the Congressional Record for a POW/MIA chair to be placed in the US Capitol by Architect of the Capitol.

“A POW/MIA chair in any location is to remain perpetually empty to help people remember that even though our soldiers are not here in person, they are always with us in spirit and in our hearts,” said Gary Merrill, President and CEO of Hussey Seating. “From elementary schools to major athletic venues, and now to the Capitol, we want to be sure our POW/MIAs are always welcome home.”
